Tom Petty was born in Gainesville, Florida, in 1950. Meeting Elvis Presley on a local movie set changed his life. He knew instantly that somehow his future would be in show business. After a series of unsuccessful “garage bands”, he formed The Heartbreakers, developed his own unique sound and eventually landed a recording contract. The band's third album “Damn The Torpedoes”, which included the hit songs Don't Do Me Like That” and ”Refugee”, made them a household name. As the leader of The Heartbreakers, a member of The Traveling Wilburys, singer, songwriter and actor, Tom Petty was an icon.
